Welcome To My (Vegan) Shower!

This is a follow up from Saturday’s utterly heartbreaking post about monkeys bred and abused for animal experimentation. Animal testing seems to be one of the most under-addressed issues in today’s AR community, so I want to bring attention to it. It is incredibly easy to find products not tested on animals, but most people don’t take time to research.

So, to encourage you to take that extra step- here’s a peek into my daily cruelty-free shower routine! (my photos taken by the lovely Brenda Rodriguez)

I love all things hemp. The applications of hemp are endless, but in this case, it’s made its way into my shampoo! Not only is Nature’s Gate an all vegan company, but they also partner with charities that help distribute clean water in Asia & Africa.

I rely heavily on 365 (Whole Foods’ brand) to provide me with inexpensive, animal-friendly toiletries. I don’t love their shampoo (some people do), but their conditioner has never let me down. A small dab goes a long way, so it’s quite a steal at $3.99 (ish, depending on your location)!

One of my favorite blog followers, Mirel, has sent me a few care packages from the UK over the past year, and they’re always chock full of cruelty-free goodies from places like Lush (love them!) and, in this case, Original Source. Original Source’s product list reads like an organic fruit-infused cocktail menu. Yum.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to look into good-for-the-world razors, but I was thrilled to finally discover Preserve Products, which I found at Whole Foods. They make a wide variety of items, ranging from toothbrushes to tableware, and their plastic is all made from recycled yogurt cups (which I suppose you could argue isn’t technically vegan, but I think you’d have a hard time proving that recycling the cups leads to increased demand for animal products)

There you have it! For more information on how to locate and obtain cruelty-free toiletries, makeup, and other products, check PETA’s master list here. For even more information on how to fight animal testing, check out the incredible British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection.
