From CNN: “Half-million Pigs To Be Slaughtered in Chile Health Emergency”
A factory farm is closing in Chile this week, after pigs were abandoned to live and starve in their own filth for five days, deeming them too unsanitary for human consumption. 500,000 lives, each one more intelligent than the dog sleeping at my feet, lost. For greed and bacon. My heart is broken. RIP babies.

“They are going to be slaughtered. They are not going to another farm, nor to another plant.”
- Jose Guzman, CEO of Agrosuper, owner of the farm

I’m so impressed by the passion and bravery of the Italian activists who freed 30 beagles from Green Hill, a massive, hellish breeding farm that supplies dogs to vivisection labs.

Because of their loving and forgiving nature, beagles are commonly tested on all across the world (notoriously by cigarette companies, with the exception of American Spirits). Unfortunately, a few of the beagles were confiscated and returned to their prison, but they will not be forgotten. My hope is that their story and their sacrifice will be shared and publicized so that people will open their hearts and eyes and stand up against unreliable, unjustified animal testing

Please sign the petition demanding the closure of Green Hill and the release of their 2500 lonely, suffering dogs.

Keep being awesome, Italians.

You guys know I don’t do a whole lot of reblogging, but I just discovered the Boys With Beards With Dogs page, and I’m kind of obsessed. You probably should be too.
You’re welcome.

(photos from a recent rescue)

INTERMIX sells fur from China, where dog pelts are frequently unlabeled and mixed in with others (2,000,000 dogs & cats die annually in China for the fur trade).

If this doesn’t bother you, don’t sign the petition.

Welcome to the (Fur) Farm.

These photos were taken by heroic activists on European fur farms. After enduring brief miserable lives, these animals are mercilessly slaughtered for their fur pelts to satisfy the greed of companies like INTERMIX.

In honor of these lost lives, please help us ask Intermix to go fur free by signing & sharing our petition: INTERMIX: Please Go Fur Free!

These feet will never touch grass, only wire.

Cramped, unnatural conditions.

Injuries are frequently neglected and ignored.

The lucky ones die early from malnutrition, desperate cannibalism, or fatal wounds. Unlike the others, they will not face a painful death by anal electrocution.

The next time someone asks you:

“Why do you fight for animals?” or “Why are you vegan?”

This is why.

I saved a dog this weekend!

And so can YOU!

My incredible friends Brittany & Hayley work their asses off to save dogs from death row and yesterday they needed my help. This poor little mutt puppy was scheduled to be euthanized in a high-kill shelter yesterday, but I got there just in time, took him home, gave him a bath, and found him a loving home within 24 hours. Now he’s sleeping happily with his new Daddy instead of sleeping forever in a mass grave.

So, on a related note, if you aren’t able to foster a shelter dog, you can support one by shopping with this rad company I learned about today, John Bartlett. 10% of all profits benefit the Tiny Tim Rescue Fund, an organization that rescues dogs from high-kill shelters.

You get a super comfy new shirt, and you help save a life! Win win! Shop shop!

BEST. NEWS. EVER.

I’ve been raving about Bold Native FOREVER, but until now it hasn’t been available to stream online. Of course you should buy the DVD (I own three copies), but this is a good start! The WHOLE movie is on YouTube!

Seriously, if you’ve ever loved an animal in your life, this movie will rock your world. If you’ve seen it, what did you think?
