Read me.
A month or so ago, my veganspiration friend Keaty suggested that I pick up a copy of Eating Animals, by Jonathan Safran Foer.  Because I trust not only her passion for the cause but also her open-mindedness towards differing attitudes and her respect for coherent, intelligent, unbiased writing, I hopped on the task and got a copy for myself.  I tore through it, only stopping occasionally to wipe...

Auf Wiedersehen, Freundin
Let’s take a moment to acknowledge my abandonment by my dear friend, Chelsea. Last week she left America for bigger and better things.  She is off to be an au pair in Germany, tending to small children whilst exploring Europe and having adventures.  The only reason this is remotely acceptable is because I’m hoping her wild experiences will provide inspiration for the script she and I...

Happy Meat Free Monday!
Have any of you hopped on the Meat Free Monday train yet?  I’d love to hear how your adventures into animal-product-lessness are going.  Photos are welcome.  Remember, you can go back to your bacon tomorrow.  One day of veganism per week is a great first step.  If my lovely NY based friend Marissa can do it (which she is): …so can you.  If you’re in LA, check out M Cafe de...

Dude, are you gay now?
After years and years of my begging and pleading and manipulating and puppy-dog eyes, my little brother has finally gone vegetarian (editor’s note: since I originally wrote this post, he’s gone 100% vegan! “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safron Foer was the final step).  I convinced him to watch Food Inc., which is what ultimately did him in (as I suspected it might)....

Wandering Writer
One of my biggest challenges as a writer has nothing to do with putting words to the page.  It’s waking up and deciding where to write.  About half the time I’ll find somewhere in my house, either the dining room table or the desk in my bedroom- (don’t knock the clutter, it’s intentional and I like it) -and the other half I’ll go out into the world and explore....

shut up, i love that shirt on you
Here on still-an-infant-site treekisser, I like to share the work of my brilliant friends with you all.  Today’s intro is to my personal favorite style (and so much more) blog, http://shutupilovethat.onsugar.com/ .  It’s written and designed by my beautiful, elegant, fashion-savvy friend Taylor Davies.  She knows what’s up.  TD knows all about style- clothing style, life style,...

Oscars. Well...those happened.
Okay, they weren’t that bad.  They were fine.  I was happy with about 50% of the decisions made.  Decisions about the format of the show, decisions about the hosts, decisions about dresses, decisions about awards.  Steve and Alec were fun, but a let down.  They’re brilliant comedians- I should be falling over laughing, shocked at their irreverence and impressed by their observational...

*Luck of the Irish*
Alright, we’ve officially passed the two week mark. St. Patrick’s Day is upon us.  In January when my job became nonexistent, I thought, “I shouldn’t admit this to anyone, but I secretly would be okay with still being unemployed by St. Patrick’s Day so I can celebrate from dawn ‘til way after dusk”.  Well, be careful what you wish for because it just...

Voice of the Voiceless
This is my favorite poem.  In a major way.  I discovered it in the look-book for Olsen Haus’ spring shoe collection and was captivated.  I love the progressive ideas this woman advocates as long ago as 1913.  Not only is she speaking on behalf of animals, but also on behalf of struggling humans who may not have the strength to defend themselves.  To me, it’s all about using the talents...

Rock-Stars
Ah, the beginning of March.  Almost beach weather. Almost my favorite holiday (St. Patrick’s Day).  The memories of a painful Broncos season are fading.  Making room for one of the most exciting days of the year- THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING TRAINING and thus the reemergence of my obsessive love of the Colorado Rockies. Though these games are basically irrelevant, they’re happening....
